More and more Christians are losing their religion, but keeping their faith in Jesus. Millions of people are interested in spirituality, but not in the institutional church. Church attendance is dropping every year, in spite of glossy marketing, contemporary music, and slick media presentations. It seems fairly obvious what we are doing is not working.
21st Century Wineskins is dedicated to helping believers rethink how we tell the great and hopeful story of Jesus. While he was on the earth Jesus broke with convention and the religious establishment in order to reach people at the point of their need. He taught them of God’s love in ways they could clearly understand. And he wasn’t afraid to live life among those rejected by the religious leaders of his day. He described his counter-intuitive methods as new wine being poured into new wineskins.
If we, as Christ’s followers, are going to be faithful to his call to love others as he loved us, we must be willing to pour the new wine of his love into “21st Century Wineskins.” We must tell the timeless story of God’s relentless love in new ways that resonate with the hearts of our generation, and we must be willing to hang with sinners, even if it offends the saints. So, 21st Century Wineskins is here to encourage us to re-examine the way Jesus lived among his world and re-imagine how we can heed his call to share his love with those around us.
